Prophetic Intercession

When a team from Frontline Ministries landed in Guatemala City, Guatemala, they felt anticipation for the task ahead as they went into the city to stay for the night. Among the team members was our good friend Dutch Sheets. He and the others had come to build a ministry center in Penten Jungle on the Passion River. Little did they know that they were stepping into a situation in which their lives depended on the obedience of an intercessor from Ohio named Linda Snelling, who was aware of the trip.

The group arrived on a Friday night planning to fly out on Saturday to their ministry destination in the jungle. The next morning Dutch and the group went to the airport and found that their flight had been canceled. For those of you who are not familiar with travel in Central America, this is not unusual. The airport authorities simply told them that they would have to come back on Sunday.

The team went to prayer asking the Lord for His direction. Was Satan keeping them from leaving, or did God want them to stay in the city one more night?

Finally, the group in Guatemala felt that they should try to leave, and negotiated back and forth with the Guatemalan Airlines representatives. Meanwhile, back in Ohio, Linda Snelling was on her knees.

For over three hours she agonized in prayer for the team. She prayed and prayed until finally she received a release from God. This prayer helped turn the stony heart of the airline people; suddenly, for no reason, after three hours of arguing, they changed their minds, threw up their hands and said, "Get on the plane. We will fly you now!"

The next morning at three a.m., one of the worst earthquakes in the history of the nation hit Guatemala City. It killed 30,000 people and left one million homeless. When the team returned from the jungle, they went to the hotel and homes where they had stayed the previous Friday night and would have been on Saturday night. To their shock they discovered that many of them would have been crushed to death had they stayed that second night when ceilings fell in and beams landed on top of the very beds in which they would have slept. How they praised God for His intervention and grace!

When they returned, Dutch heard about Linda Snelling's prophetic intercession on their behalf, and a sense of wonder filled his heart along with gratitude. His amazement increased when he found out that she had prayed during the exact three-hour period when they were in the midst of negotiations with the Guatemalan Airlines representatives.

Thank God for the "extra" team member whom God sent with the Frontline team! And thank God for a faithful prayer warrior who said, "Here I am, Lord, send me; I will go on my knees." We may never know how much work for the Kingdom of God was affected by her prayers.
